Summer Movies!

Wow, where do we begin with the summer flicks!

In the past week we've seen three movies. Lake House, Nacho Libre, Click and Superman. Here are our thoughts:

Lake House

As Steve would say, Chic Flick! But, we made a date night out of it, complete with a very sweet invite drawn up by Steve. What's not to love. I've always loved the concept of time travel or any romances that involve people who have to really work to get together. Keanu and Sandra are great together and the dog is very cute. This was an enjoyable date movie.

Nacho Libre

What can be said about this movie. It was very silly, but I have to confess that I liked it and while he may not be everyone's idea of a leading man, I do like Jack Black! Great when you just want to go the movies to be entertained. The humor is 12-year old boy - goofy. And, who doesn't like to where "stretchy pants" around the house!

Click

Again, off-beat leading man, but I do like Adam Sandler and this movie is a good family movie. Who hasn't longed for the opportunity to stop time so that you can just be in the moment, or speed the unpleasant moments right on by. Christopher Walken does a great job in this movie. I kept trying to figure out who his character was, and was surprised by the revelation. Great supporting cast in Henry Winkler and Julie Kavner. Super make-up on everyone, too! Really enjoyable - and again, a great dog!

Superman Returns

The Man of Steel is back. The hard part for me in this flick is that I'll forever see one of my favorite leading men, Christopher Reeve as Superman. Brendon Routh is very good in his portrayal of Superman - and he's very easy on the eyes. I like Kevin Spacey and his Lex Luthor is a very bad guy. The CG is awesome and I challenge anyone to not be blown away when Superman gets shot in the eye! Great graphics.

I would see this one again, if nothing else just for the effects. The story is good and while I don't love Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane (she's no Margo Kidder), the rest of the cast portrays the characters just like you expect. Jimmy Olson is over eager and Perry White is a bit gruff. All in all, a great couple of hours. We'll probably see this one twice!

Next up

Our next flick will be...The Devil Wears Prada. The book was great...can the movie carry it off...stay tuned!
